SEEC Co-Chair Statement on the one-year anniversary of Trump’s announcement to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord
Washington,
June 1, 2018
Today Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition Co-Chairs Reps. Gerry Connolly, Doris Matsui, and Paul Tonko released the following statement in response to the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
“One year ago President Trump announced his misguided plan to pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement, but the response has been resounding—We are still in. Today states, businesses, and local communities across the county are blazing past President Trump’s failed leadership, taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint, invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, and commit to doing their part to meet the Paris climate goals. On Capitol Hill, SEEC members have led the fight to preserve vital clean energy programs and climate research funding. We’ve laid out an infrastructure proposal that helps us reduce greenhouse gas pollution and makes our country more resilient in the face of climate change. And we’ve fought rollbacks of vital federal climate policies like the Clean Power Plan and the Clean Car Standards. President Trump’s move to pull us out of this deal puts our international relationships and reputation at risk—setting us on a course to be the only nation in the world not party to the agreement. But one year later, our message to the international community is clear: We are still in.” |
