Today, following the meeting between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin in Russia’s Amur Region on Wednesday, September 13th, Representatives Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Joe Wilson (R-SC), co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Korea, introduced legislation to expand sanctions on any activity related to an agreement between North Korea and Russia to provide material support for Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war in Ukraine.
"Kim Jong Un's material support for Russia's illegal war in Ukraine will mark a dangerous partnership between two malign actors that threaten global peace,” said Connolly. “We cannot allow this unholy partnership to go unchecked. It’s time for the United States to take decisive action and thwart North Korean arms from being used in Putin’s bloody war against the Ukrainian people.” “North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is a member of the alliance of tyrants working to destroy freedom and democracy around the world," said Wilson. "This bill ensures that dictator Kim can neither profit nor aid and abet war criminal Putin’s mass murder of innocent Ukrainians.” Full text of the legislation is available here. |
