Congressman Gerry Connolly, Chairman of the House Government Operations subcommittee, released the following statement after WMATA announced nearly half of Metro’s train operators have lapsed recertification, resulting in temporary reductions in service.

“Train operators are fundamental to Metro safety. Training lapses for operators are deadly serious. This is yet another preventable service and safety setback for Metro caused by letting a safety issue languish. The Safety Commission is once again demonstrating why Congress helped establish this critical oversight body.”
