Connolly Hosts Coffee With Clergy To Discuss Affordable Housing, Health Care, and Criminal Justice Reform

Today, Congressman Connolly (D-VA) hosted a coffee with clergy conversation focused on addressing critical issues facing Fairfax County residents. The event was attended by more than 75 local faith leaders, representing dozens of faith-based organizations.

During the two hour event held at the Fairfax County Government Center, community leaders shared the work they are doing in our community and discussed strategies to address homelessness and affordable housing, expand health care and mental health services, and adopt criminal justice reforms.

“As Providence District Supervisor, Chairman of Fairfax County, and now in Congress, our faith leaders have been an extraordinary partner in helping address our community’s needs, uplifting families, and delivering vital resources,” Connolly said. “This meeting will allow us to build on our past successes, like Fairfax County’s Hypothermia Prevention Program and the Penny for Affordable Housing Program, and tackle the new challenges facing our neighbors. I’m grateful for all our leaders in the faith community. Hand in hand, we will continue to help those in need.”

“Having people working out in the streets come together and dialogue with leaders helps us bridge gaps, promote accountability, and advocate for progress,” said Pastor Terry Kim, from Impact Church of Northern Virginia.  “These conversations are essential for crafting policies that reflect the needs and values of the people.”

“We must be partners in helping to shape policy that will be beneficial for our communities,” said Rev. Dr. Vernon Walton, of First Baptist Church of Vienna. “Not everyone is inviting us to the table, and I thank Congressman Connolly for taking this opportunity to bring us together on one accord.”

This community conversation also provided a forum for exploring new avenues to enhance community support services and advocate for policies that will be beneficial to residents throughout Fairfax County.

Rep. Connolly reaffirmed his commitment to supporting investments that directly impacts residents. “Engagement in our communities with faith-based leaders is not a one-time event but an ongoing process,” he noted. “I look forward to continuing these important conversations and working together to make a positive impact in our communities.”
