Connolly Statement on Silver Line Phase 2 Major Milestone
Washington,
November 4, 2021
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Chairman of the House Government Operations subcommittee, released the following statement after Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority officials declared substantial completion on Phase 2 of the Metrorail Silver Line extension project. “As one of the earliest and strongest proponents of the Silver line, this is a welcome step towards fully operational Metro service to Dulles. I have been proud to champion the Silver Line for nearly three decades. First as a Supervisor tasked with rezoning Tysons for transit, then Chairman of the Board during the battles to get the project back on track, and finally in Congress to help ink the final funding deal and conduct oversight of Silver Line construction. “It is really hard to do big things, and this one has been 60 years in the making. The Silver Line is giving rise to a corridor that will be the economic engine of the Commonwealth. I am going to be a dog with a bone to get this project to completion and ensure riders have the safe and reliable transit service to Dulles our region first dreamt of in 1962.” |
