Today, Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Chairman of the House Government Operations subcommittee, released the following statement on the WMATA Inspector General’s management alerts regarding Phase 2 construction of the Silver Line. “I appreciate these urgent management alerts from the WMATA Inspector General regarding substandard contractor work on the Silver Line. This is the kind of oversight work we expect from the WMATA IG, and why I have consistently advocated for greater resources and independence for the WMATA IG, including in the Metro Accountability and Investment Act. I look forward to having Inspector General Cherrington testify at an October hearing on WMATA in the Government Operations Subcommittee regarding this report and the other important work the IG is doing to hold WMATA accountable and keep the system and its riders safe.” In May, Connolly lead the regional congressional delegation in reintroducing the Metro Accountability and Investment Act that would provide additional resources for the WMATA Inspector General and require more stringent oversight of the rail system. |
