Today, Representatives Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Albio Sires (D-NJ), and Gregg Harper (R-MS), co-chairs of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, released the following statement on the 107th National Day of Taiwan:

“October 10, 2018 will mark the 107th Double Ten Day, the national day of Taiwan. As co-chairs of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, we extend our warmest regards and best wishes to the people of Taiwan on this important day.

“There is much to celebrate this year with regard to Taiwan’s democracy and U.S.-Taiwan relations. Earlier this year, the Taiwan Travel Act, which was cosponsored by each of the co-chairs, became law following unanimous passage in the House and Senate. This legislation will further strengthen and enhance the strategic bilateral relationship between the United States and Taiwan.

“In addition to being a great friend of the United States, Taiwan is the 11th largest trading partner of the United States. Taiwan regularly sponsors trade missions to the United States in pursuit of agricultural products. In late September this year, another trade mission from Taiwan visited the United States in pursuit of $300 million of soybeans purchases.

“We would like to use the occasion of Taiwan’s National Day to reaffirm the strength of the U.S.-Taiwan relationship. Congress has been integral to forging the U.S. commitment to Taiwan since the passage of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) and we express our continued commitment to the TRA and the Six Assurances. It is an honor and privilege to support this vital relationship, and we look forward to joining the people of Taiwan in celebrating their 107th National Day.”
