Connolly Now Accepting Submissions for his 9th Annual High School Congressional Art Competition

High school students residing in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District are encouraged to participate in Congressman Gerry Connolly’s 9th annual Congressional Art Competition. Connolly is accepting artwork entries at both his Fairfax and Prince William District Offices until Friday, April 21 at 5:00 pm.

The annual event provides a unique opportunity for young artists to showcase their creativity. Winners will be announced at a reception for all participants and their families to be held in May 2017 at the Workhouse Arts Center’s McGuire Woods Gallery, 9601 Ox Road in Lorton.

The winner of this year’s competition will have his or her work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. They and a guest will also be invited to a reception at the U.S. Capitol to be honored with the other winners from across the country. The work of another high school artist from the 11th CD, judged to be a “Rising Star,” will have his or her artwork displayed prominently for a year on the Workhouse campus.

“This annual contest provides a unique opportunity for young artists in Fairfax and Prince William to join with students from across the nation to showcase their artistic talent,” Congressman Connolly said. “It is my pleasure to host this competition for high school students in the 11th Congressional District and highlight the importance of the fine arts.”
