Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released a statement in response to reportingthat President Trump is planning to dissolve the leadership of the United States Postal Service and destroy the integrity and independence of Americans’ 250-year-old delivery service:
“The Postal Service is a nonpartisan, Constitutionally authorized, self-sustaining agency that serves the American people. Millions of Americans rely on the Postal Service every day to deliver mail, medications, ballots, and so much more. Only the Postal Service delivers everywhere in the United States, no matter how remote. Now two billionaires are following through on their plot, developed at Mar A Lago, to put tax cuts for the rich ahead of everyday Americans who rely on the Postal Service. Privatizing the Postal Service is an attack on Americans’ access to critical information, benefits, and life-saving medical care. It is clear that Trump and his cronies value lining their own pockets more than the lives and connection of the American public.”
