Connolly Calls for Resignation of Secret Service Director

Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) released the following statement calling on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign following her testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability:

“Today, I asked the Director of the Secret Service a very simple question: does the ubiquitousness of assault rifles in America make the Secret Service’s job easier or harder? She was unable, or unwilling, to answer that question. That is unacceptable.

The United States has a gun violence problem. That is no secret to any American, and it should be no secret to Director Cheatle. If she is unwilling to look at every factor that led to the tragedy in Butler, PA, including the shooter’s ability to access a deadly weapon of war, she has lost my trust and she has lost my confidence.

Director Cheatle should resign.”
