Congressman Gerry Connolly announced this year’s deadline for students wishing to apply for one of the nation’s service academies is Friday, Oct. 16^th 2015. This includes applications to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.  

In addition to applying to the individual service academy a student must receive a nomination by a qualified nominating source. The deadline to apply for a congressional nomination from Congressman Connolly is Friday, October 16, 2015.  Any student who lives in the 11^th District of Virginia must submit a completed application packet by the deadline in order to be considered.  There are no exceptions to this deadline.

“I am honored to play a role in supporting the future leaders of our country.  The service academies offer exceptional educational and leadership development opportunities for those students who want to serve our country as military officers,” said Rep. Connolly.  “Last year, the 11^th District was once again one of the top districts in the nation based on number of applicants who received academy offers.”

Over the last five years, the 11^th Congressional district has consistently ranked as one of the top congressional districts in students receiving academy offers. “It’s a direct testament to the value we put on education and public service here in Northern Virginia that each year so many of our high school students choose to attend our nation’s service academies,” said Connolly.

Students who submit completed application packages will be interviewed by one of the Academy Advisory Boards.  These boards are comprised of academy graduates, active duty or retired officers, and even a former academy admissions officer.  The boards will then make their recommendations to Congressman Connolly for his approval.
