Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) and the National Capital Region Delegation released the following statement today after hosting a meeting on Capitol Hill with D.C. Councilmember & Metro Board Chair Jack Evans. Members attending today’s meeting included Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC), Congressman Chris Van Hollen (MD-08), Congressman Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Congressman John Sarbanes (MD-03), Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08), and Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (VA-10).

“We were pleased to invite D.C. Councilmember & Metro Board Chair Jack Evans to join us today to discuss how we can support Metro’s efforts to increase safety and reliability for its riders, many of whom are our constituents. The SafeTrack maintenance plan is currently underway, and it is our hope that Metro meets the safety requirements outlined by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Transit Administration, institutes a culture of safety, and restores the faith of the public upon completion. We will continue to monitor the progress of SafeTrack and stay in close communication with Mr. Evans and WMATA General Manager Paul Wiedefeld to ensure the plan stays on schedule and puts Metro back on track.”
