Today, Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation, released the following statement after Google announced a new $1 billion investment to expand their infrastructure in Virginia to support AI innovation, bringing the company’s total investment in the Commonwealth to more than $4 billion.
“I am thrilled that Google is continuing to invest in Virginia. The 11th District – the Silicon Valley of the East – plays a central role in shaping our country’s digital and technological future, one where innovation abounds and where the benefits of that innovation are felt far and wide. Investments like today’s are vital to that effort. I am proud that our Commonwealth has been selected for this investment, and I am so excited to see where it takes us next.”
In December of 2023, Connolly joined Google at Herndon Middle School to announce a new $520,000 grant from Google to support the establishment of robotics clubs in schools across Virginia.
