Connolly Statement on Announcement of Dr. Stephanie Psaki as US Global Health Security Coordinator
Washington,
February 6, 2024
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), the author of the Global Health Security Act, released the following statement on the White House's announcement of Dr. Stephanie Psaki as the first United States Coordinator for Global Health Security:
"I welcome the appointment of Dr. Stephanie Psaki as the United States Coordinator for Global Health Security, a position created by my legislation – the Global Health Security Act. I wrote this bill after the Trump Administration dismantled the White House pandemic office in 2018, just two years before the COVID-19 pandemic, a public health crisis which claimed the lives of more than one million Americans. The Coordinator position will help provide clear, focused, and accountable leadership for the federal government’s pandemic preparedness, prevention, and response efforts. The Biden Administration is to be commended on its commitment to restoring our nation’s capacity to address global health security threats and keep Americans safe and healthy." |
