Today, Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Congressman Garret Graves (R-LA), along with Congressman Bryan Steil (R-WI) and Congressman Joe Morelle (D-NY), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee on House Administration, introduced a resolution recognizing the critical role of congressional and support staff working on Capitol Hill and in state or district offices.
“Our staff are vital to serving our constituents and keeping this place running,” said Connolly. “From resolving constituent concerns with federal agencies and advising us on important legislation to managing Congress’ IT and maintaining the Capitol campus, congressional and support staff are committed, patriotic public servants who deserve our thanks and recognition. I’m proud to join my friends, Reps. Graves, Morelle, and Steil, in recognizing our hardworking staff for their dedication and their service.”
“The American public often sees the polarization and social media battles from Congress, but behind that veneer there are thousands of men and women who put in long, hard hours of work,” said Graves. “Many of them are underpaid and underappreciated. Without them, this place would be completely off the rails. Member office, committee, leadership, and support staff are instrumental in ensuring our constituents are heard, agency issues are resolved, and bills are drafted – they help deliver results that make a difference back home. While Congress has a long way to go, Americans are much better off because of the hard work of congressional staff. It’s an honor to work with Congressman Connolly to recognize their public service.”
“The work our Congressional offices conduct would simply not be possible without our hardworking and dedicated staffs,” said Morelle. “Both in the District and Washington, D.C., Congressional staff and support staff play a critical role serving the American people and ensuring our democracy truly works for everyone. I’m proud to join my colleagues Representatives Connolly, Graves, and Steil in recognizing dedicated staff throughout Congress for their patriotic public service.”
