Connolly Statement on House Passage of Republican ‘Polluters Over People’ Act
Washington,
March 30, 2023
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Chair Emeritus of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 1, Republican legislation that puts the interests of polluters over the American people:
“As we speak, climate change is wreaking havoc across the globe. This bill only adds fuel to the fire. It would repeal key climate provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act and hamper our ability to meet our emissions goals. It would threaten the progress we’ve made on clean air and water. And it would pad the pockets of oil and gas executives who are already making record profits at the expense of hardworking Americans. This is a deeply misguided piece of legislation. For the sake of our climate and the future of our planet, I voted against it. I can only urge the Senate to do the same.” |
