On Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 1:00 pm, Congressman Connolly will hold a reception for the students from the 11th Congressional District of Virginia who have accepted appointments to one of our nation’s service academies.  The reception will be held at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA, 22035.  Students, their families, and members of Connolly’s Academy Advisory Boards will be in attendance.

Each year, hundreds of students in the 11th district apply to Congressman Connolly’s office for nomination to the US Military Academy at West Point, the US Naval Academy, the US Air Force Academy or the US Merchant Marine Academy.  Connolly can nominate up to 10 qualified applicants to each academy and is guaranteed only 1 appointment.  Connolly enlists the assistance of Academy Advisory Boards comprised of academy alumni, retired and active duty military officers, and former academy admissions officers to select the final nominees.  The academies make the final decision on who will be offered appointments based on their academic and physical fitness requirements and leadership potential.

The 11th District  consistently ranks #1 or #2 in the country with respect to the number of students who receive offers from the academies.  This year, Connolly nominated a total of 34 students and 31 students have accepted appointments.
