Connolly Statement on USPS Decision to Accelerate and Increase EV Purchases
Washington,
July 20, 2022
Today, Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Government Operations, released the following statement regarding the U.S. Postal Service's announcement on its electric vehicle fleet.
“Today’s USPS announcement that it will accelerate and increase its purchase of electric vehicles for its aging fleet is important progress. Investing in an outdated technology never made sense, and I am glad the Postmaster General is belatedly coming to that commonsense realization. We still have more work to do, and Congress will continue to help push the USPS to a modern, green fleet.” In March, Connolly introduced the Green Postal Service Fleet Act to prohibit the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) from carrying out any purchase of a new fleet of delivery vehicles unless 75 percent of the new vehicles are electric or otherwise emissions-free. |
