Connolly Statement on Trump Budget Proposal To Cut Metro Funding
Washington,
February 12, 2018
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) released the following statement on the Trump administration’s budget proposal that would cut the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act (PRIIA) funding from $150 million to $120 million: “I am beyond disappointed that the Trump administration chose to cut funding for Metro in its FY2019 budget. Especially, at a time when most of our area delegation is fighting for the federal government to double its contribution and pay its fair share for the transit system that delivers more than 100,000 federal employees to work each day. “The President’s budget paints a bleak picture for the future of transit in America. Nothing could be more indicative of that vision than shortchanging Metro and allowing for the further decline of the national capital’s transit system. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that Metro receives, at the very least, full funding for PRIIA in FY2019.” |
