Dear Neighbor,
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you about this year’s upcoming Congressional Art Competition. Any high school student who lives in the 11th Congressional District is invited to participate, whether they attend public, private, or home school. If you know any students who may be interested, please encourage them to submit an entry.
Please also be advised that we have extended the submission deadline until Monday, May 9 at 5 PM.
This competition is one of my favorite events of the year, as students in the area have the chance to display their talent and creativity in a professional art gallery. Students do not need to create a new piece of art specifically for this competition – they are welcome to submit any piece they have worked on. Previous competitions have seen paintings, photographs, drawings, digital art, and more.
Please see further details on how to participate below:
- For additional rules and regulations, and to complete this year’s application, click here.
- Each student can submit a maximum of two pieces.
- A signature from an art teacher is NOT required.
- Submissions can be dropped off at either of my two District offices. Please call in advance to schedule this socially distanced exchange.
- Fairfax: (703) 256-3071
- Prince William: (571) 408-4407
*Entries are due Monday, May 9, 2022*
This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their abilities in a professional gallery! All entries will be on display at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia from May 11, 2022 to May 22, 2022. As in years past, the exhibit will be open to the public. Attendees will need to comply with the Workhouse Arts Center’s COVID-19 protocols.
The winning work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year. The second-place work will be on display at the Workhouse Arts Gallery for a year. If the artists allow, additional high-ranking pieces will also be displayed in my Capitol Hill and district offices.
My staff will coordinate arrangements for the collection of the Best in Show piece to be transported to Washington. Only this winning work will need to meet the framing guidelines detailed in the application notes.
