Dear Neighbor,

During my time as your Representative, I have never missed a State of the Union address. Until now. 

This week, I boycotted Donald Trump's address to Congress. 

These are not normal times. Our democracy has never been so tested. Our laws, institutions, and the separation of powers have never been so attacked from within. This moment demands more than business as usual. 

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are unleashing unprecedented cruelty and chaos on our community and our country. In solidarity with my constituents who have been harmed by this Administration's wrecking ball approach to government, I could not in good conscience give audience to the President's speech.

As Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, my fight doesn't stop there. Take a look at what we've done just this week to hold Donald Trump and Elon Musk accountable:

• I launched a government-wide investigation into Elon Musk’s infiltration of federal agencies. Elon Musk claims that all of DOGE’s actions are “maximally transparent,” but Congress and the American people have had no real insight into the actual operations of DOGE. That must change.
• I led 141 of my colleagues in demanding the Trump Administration reinstate every federal employee it has unlawfully fired. We also demanded the Administration cease all future plans to carry out further mass firings. 
• I introduced a formal Resolution of Inquiry (ROI) to investigate Elon Musk’s extensive conflicts of interest and entrenched corruption within the Trump Administration. An ROI would require the Administration to provide documents, communications, and factual information. It's one of the strongest tools in our toolkit, and we're not hesitating to use it.  
• I also introduced a second Resolution of Inquiry with Rep. Kweisi Mfume of Maryland. This ROI investigates the Trump-Musk Administration’s unprecedented attacks on federal workers and their efforts to embed political loyalists in the government who are willing to turn a blind eye to corruption and grift.
