Dear Neighbor,
I am pleased to announce that my office is accepting internship applications for the fall semester until August 10th.
I have been proud to support and mentor young people and aspiring political and policy professionals throughout my tenure in office. Many of my current staff members were once interns in my office, and each new class of interns further reinforces my faith in the next generation of public servants.
Interns in my Capitol Hill office attend Congressional hearings and markups, prepare memos for staff and myself, and draft constituent correspondence on critical issues facing our nation. Interns in my District Office analyze regional data, help organize district-wide events, and assist with constituent casework.
Working in a Congressional office brings countless opportunities to observe first-hand how our government operates and gain professional experience in the world of policymaking. But you don’t have to take my word for it – see what current and previous interns have had to say:
"Interning with Representative Connolly gave me a valuable opportunity to learn more about the political process and serve the community I grew up in. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend this internship to anyone interested in public service." - Ryan, Spring 2024
"I loved the work I got to do here, and there was even more available to interns outside the office! There were lectures and workshops by Congressional leadership that were only available to Interns. I was able to see the legislative process firsthand, from doing legislative research to attending Congressional hearings – I even got to hear from the Secretary of State at one!" - Safa, Summer 2024
"Every day there's something new for you to do. Plus, staff helps make sure you work on policy that fits your interests, which is super rewarding. I couldn't recommend working with this team enough!" - Caleb, Summer 2024
"Interning at Congressman Connolly’s district office was an incredibly valuable experience, both as a student interested in politics and as a person. I deeply appreciated the opportunity to interact with constituents, hearing their concerns and helping to address their issues. This hands-on involvement made me feel like I was making a tangible impact on people's lives. The experience not only enhanced my understanding of public service but also solidified my commitment to community engagement. I would recommend it to anyone." - Ariana, Summer 2024
"Working in the District office has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Directly serving and supporting constituents of the 11th district teaches you skills that I will never take for granted. I've had the pleasure of also doing work that's specific to my own career and school interest. I can't think of a better place to intern!" - Michele, Summer 2024
Our internships are part-time, allowing college students the flexibility to maintain their academic plans for the semester. This is a paid internship, and each intern will receive a $3,000 stipend over the semester. Priority is given to college-level students from Virginia’s 11th Congressional District. Selection is based on the applicant’s professional experience, interview, and a short writing sample.
You can learn more about the internship opportunities here.
Please email a cover letter, resume, and brief writing sample for your application to be considered by August 10th to the office of your choice – or apply to both!
