A Community Conversation on Gun Safety

Dear Neighbor,

Last week, I had the privilege of hosting youth leaders from across Northern Virginia at a town hall on gun violence in America and the critical need for commonsense gun safety measures. This town hall provided an opportunity for students, parents, and members of our community to ask questions, voice their concerns, and share their ideas about how we can make our communities safer.

As I mentioned to the audience that night, this town hall really belonged to these students. Their dedication to this issue mobilized our community and encouraged our friends and neighbors to speak out and make their voices heard. I continue to be inspired by this generation of leaders. They have the passion and the purpose to force their country and Republicans in Congress to finally confront this crisis.

I hope you will read the Connection Newspaper’s story about the town hall here, and continue speaking out about the issues that affect you and your family. We can – and we must – do everything in our power to ensure that this is the last generation of students who have to organize and protest to simply go to school safely and unafraid. As these young members of our community continue their fight against gun violence, know that I will remain unyielding in my efforts to pass crucial and long-overdue gun safety legislation in Congress.

Sincerely,
Gerald E. Connolly
Member of Congress
