Dear Neighbor,
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented economic pain to communities across our country, and ours is no exception.
The US unemployment rate currently stands at 14.7 percent, and we learned today that an additional 3 million Americans, including 53,396 Virginians, filed for unemployment last week alone. That brings the total number of filers to 36.5 million nationwide, and to more than 800,000 in the DC area.
As the economic forecast continues to worsen, so too will the need for food for families across Northern Virginia. That's why I'm thrilled to share that Fairfax County's Stuff the Bus food drive will be taking place on Saturday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Buses will be parked at locations throughout the county to collect food donations. This year, buses will be parked in less-frequented parking lots, including all Board of Supervisors’ offices and the Fairfax County Government Center, to allow donors to comply with social distancing guidelines.
