Dear Neighbor,
Gun violence is the leading cause of death for American kids, but the House GOP refuses to take action. As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, today we called on Speaker McCarthy to bring gun violence prevention legislation to the Floor.
Simply put: inaction costs lives. Last year, 1,686 children were killed and another 4,485 were injured by gun violence. Despite this preventable carnage, the Republican Majority has yet to vote on even one gun violence prevention bill.
Last week, Republicans canceled the last day of scheduled votes over disagreements within the Republican conference about how to proceed on a government funding bill. Rather than leave early, Congress should vote on lifesaving measures like the Bipartisan Background Checks bill, which would prevent felons, domestic abusers, terrorists and people with serious mental health conditions from accessing guns.
