Dear Neighbor,
I just left the Oval Office, where I joined President Biden for the signing of my legislation to designate a new September 11th National Memorial Trail Route that connects each site of the 9/11 attacks—from Virginia to Pennsylvania to New York.
Starting at the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, the September 11th National Memorial Trail will extend northwest to the Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, PA. It will then continue east to New York City’s National September 11 Memorial and Museum, before heading south to connect to the 9/11 Memorial Garden of Reflection. It then connects to the National Mall in Washington D.C., and ultimately returns to the Pentagon Memorial.
I was immensely proud to have my bill pass 423-0 in the House of Representatives and by unanimous consent in the Senate, and am prouder still to have it signed into law today.
By signing my legislation, President Biden brings us one step closer to making this vision for the 9/11 National Memorial Trail a reality—one step closer to honoring the families and loved ones who were victims of the attack, and the heroes who saved countless lives on such a tragic day.
So, I want to thank President Biden for his friendship, his leadership, and his cooperation on this important endeavor. And I thank my colleagues Representatives Fitzpatrick and Beyer, as well as the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance, particularly my friend David Brickley, for their steadfast and unrelenting support of this project.
The designation of the trail comes at a poignant moment, as we continue to honor the 20th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. May it bring some measure of comfort to all those who continue to shoulder the loss and grief of that horrific day, and may it unite all Americans in gratitude for those who lost their lives to save others.
