Dear Neighbor,I am pleased to announce that I will soon be hosting my annual Military Service Academy Night for students interested in attending one of our nation’s Service Academies! As students begin to consider and work towards the possibility of attending an academy, this event is intended to assist in their overall preparedness. This years’ Service Academy Night will take place on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 7:00 PM via Zoom. The program will include presentations from Academy Liaison Officers and a detailed explanation of the Congressional nomination process. Service Academy Liaisons will also be available to answer questions from Academy Night attendees.Since our very first Military Service Academy Night, thousands of students and parents have attended these events and benefited from the information provided. Due to the competitive nature of the appointment process and the significant number of military families in the area, this information is usually in high demand.Nominations to the Service Academies are made by the President, Vice President, or a Member of Congress. There are five Service Academies: The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), The United States Naval Academy (USNA), The United States Military Academy (USMA), The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), and the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA). Nominations are required for all but the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, to which appointments are made on the basis of an annual nationwide competition.  My office has established Service Academy Advisory Panels comprised of current and former military officers, academy graduates, and former academy admissions officers who evaluate the qualifications of student applicants. These panels make merit-based recommendations to me for nominations to the service academies. You will hear directly from some of these advisory board members during this service academy event. The desire of these young men and women to serve our great nation is truly admirable, and I hope that this event provides them the information and tools they need to be successful applicants to our Service Academies. I hope you all can join us on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 7:00 PM!Please click here to register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other, and remember that my office is here to help.
