Dear Neighbor,

It was a privilege to be sworn in as a Member of the 115th Congress last week, and representing you continues to be the great honor of my life. Since November, we have received an outpouring of concern from neighbors expressing their disappointment, anger, and fear regarding the policies and appointments announced by the President-elect and his transition team. I share those sentiments and will be steadfast in my commitment to fighting for our values each and every day.

Last week, the House Majority opened this Congress on a shameful and disappointing note. Rather than look for opportunities to find common ground, they instead passed a partisan Rules package that would stifle dissent and curtail free speech and continue their unrelenting and misguided assault on our federal workforce.

I opposed that package because I don’t believe it represents our values or America’s priorities. Our country demands that Congress address the real challenges we face.

That means fighting to protect and grow Northern Virginia’s economy and making sure everyone has access to a good education. We should be investing in a 21st-Century economy that maintains our global competitiveness. We should immediately pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill that will help repair our crumbling roads, bridges and transit systems. We need to fix our broken immigration system and oppose efforts that call for mass deportations. We should build on the successes of the Affordable Care Act, while fixing its flaws, rather than repeal it with no replacement plan. And we must to work to pass commonsense gun safety measures that will make our communities safer.

As this Congress begins, I want to hear from you and know your priorities. Please sign-up for my e-newsletter, or email my office to share any concerns or issues you may have. You can also fill out our “115th Congress: Issue Priorities” survey, and let me know what issues you think Congress should address.

I look forward to serving you.

Sincerely,

Gerald E. Connolly
Member of Congress
11th District of Virginia
