Dear Neighbor,

I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy as we continue to confront this crisis together. As we take this day to honor our heroes, I ask you to please remember to stay home if you can, and to practice social distancing and wear a mask if you do go out. Your health and the health of those around you is paramount.

Even now, amidst the chaos and the grief, Memorial Day offers a chance for solemn contemplation of the ultimate price brave Americans in uniform have paid to keep the light of freedom alive not only here at home, but throughout the world. As we remember and honor all who have died in service to our country, we should ask ourselves what we as citizens can do to give back to those who have already given us so much, including the last full measure of devotion. While we pause to venerate the sacrifice of those who have died, we must commit ourselves to doing all we can to make sure that their fellow soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and their families are adequately cared for and empowered to live full and fulfilling lives. The men and women of our Armed Forces have given this country everything. We owe them, their comrades, and survivors no less.

Though we may be physically apart, our connection to one another has never been more important. This Memorial Day, please take the time to reach out to your friends and family members for whom this day might be a particularly hard one to spend alone.

Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other. We will get through this together, as one community. As always, my office stands ready to assist any of our neighbors who may need help. Please don’t hesitate to call us at (703) 256-3071, or visit my website here.

Sincerely,

Gerald E. Connolly
Member of Congress
